Local Family Escapes by Season

Each school holiday break presents a new opportunity for families to explore their own backyard. In New South Wales, the Blue Mountains offer hiking, heritage towns, and cosy stays year-round. In Western Australia, Margaret River’s beaches, caves, and gourmet stops are ideal during spring and summer. Victoria families often head along the Great Ocean Road for nature trails, waterfalls, and beach camping. Meanwhile, Queenslanders love the Sunshine Coast for laid-back fun, theme parks, and snorkelling adventures in the warmer months.

Domestic Getaways Worth Considering

Short flights or scenic drives between states can offer a change of scenery with minimal travel stress. Families from Sydney might hop up to the Gold Coast for beach time and attractions. Those in Melbourne can take a cultural break in Hobart or head inland to alpine regions in winter. Perth families often fly to Broome or drive through the Coral Coast for a change of pace. Term breaks are also a good time to explore Australia’s lesser-known gems, like Kangaroo Island, Darwin, or Canberra before the crowds hit.

Planning an Overseas Holiday in 2025

If you're considering heading abroad during the school holidays, it’s important to plan ahead. Make sure your child’s passport is valid, understand your school’s policy on absences during term time, and book flights early to avoid peak season price surges. Destinations with direct flights from Australia can save time and energy.

All-inclusive resorts are particularly helpful when travelling with kids as they offer meals, activities, and entertainment in one place, which helps you manage costs and keep the whole family happy.
