Temwa in Da Balaia

Club Med Da Balaia was a wonderful destination for our family and we highly recommend it to other families, especially with younger children! We were pleasantly surprised by how amazing the resort was at accommodating young families. We have visited many other family-friendly resorts, however none catered to both younger and older children in the way that Club Med Da Balaia does. We met other families who make Da Balaia their destination of choice every year for this reason, the whole family gets a vacation that is well tailored to their needs - fun and relaxation included.

We spent half of our vacation as a whole family and the other half with the children at the kids clubs, whilst mum and dad had some much needed adult down time, which was the perfect split for us! Our typical day as a family included eating breakfast together at the main restaurant, heading to the beach (which is right at the resorts’ doorstep), and splashing in the shallow pool and dancing at the pool bar to live music while picking up some snacks. On kids club days, our children played with their age mates in a fantastic developmentally friendly way. Our busy 2 year old boy enjoyed plenty of free play in open space, singing and communal meal times, whilst our curious 4 year old girl learned about sports at the circus gymnasium, painted and swam in the afternoon. Every evening, we loved dressing up as a family, because we can’t miss an opportunity to coordinate on a theme. We also loved watching the brilliant selection of entertainment in the theatre before bedtime, the circus show was our favourite!

What were your rooms like at the resort?
We had an extra spacious garden-facing adjoining family suite. This was perfect for us as it meant the children had a separate room with a bathroom and toilet, securely joined to ours by a door. This was really helpful for bedtime, because we didn’t have to go to sleep when the kids did in the evening. The kids bathroom had a potty and nappy bin, which was such an accommodating touch for our toddler. We also had a little living room area in our master bedroom, which gave us the apartment feel whilst having all the services of a resort. The double balcony was great too, perfect for hanging out as a family in the sunshine.

Tell us about the food and drink available at the resort!
The wide selection of food and drink was remarkable. My favourite part were the themed nights, where the main restaurant would transform to match the theme. Portugal night was so much fun, we watched local traditional dancers and enjoyed some traditional Portuguese food from the outdoor grill and fresh desserts. When we visited the adults-only zen pool, we loved the refreshing fresh fruit drinks they offered as we explored the beautiful natural environment. So peaceful and refreshing.

Our favourite memory was watching the children feature in the kids club family show at the theatre. It was so special to see what they had been up to in the week on the big screen, whilst watching them perform joyfully with their peers. Singing, dancing, being super heroes and sharing fun talents. We loved how the kids clubs brought children from all over the world together in such an engaging way and the family show really brought that to life for us. It was so great to see them have fun and get so excited about their very own show.

We also had the wonderful chance to visit the on site Cinq Mondes spa. We had our very first couple massage, which included a Prenatal massage for Temwa. It was really impressive to see the range of natural products they used and it felt amazing on the skin. It was such a wonderful way for us to unwind in a busy season, while knowing our children are catered to and having a great time too. We’d definitely recommend this to other parents who are planning their trip.
